Music Birthday: BeBe Winans

Today, September 17, 1962, Benjamin “BeBe” Winans was born in Detroit, Michigan. His third solo studio album, “Love and Freedom,” was released by Motown Records in 2000, and it peaked at no. 30 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart.

The album includes the hit single Brian McKnight and Joe collaboration, ‘Coming Back Home.’ It also has BeBe’s cover of Stevie Wonder’s ‘Jesus Children of America.’ which featured Stevie Wonder, and Marvin Winans.

On the US Billboard 200, “Love and Freedom” peaked at no. 30, and no. 1 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart. As for the single ‘Coming Back Home,’ it reached no. 50 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart. 

Adding to that, at the Grammy Awards in February 2001, “Coming Back Home” was nominated for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.

“Love and Freedom” was also nominated that night, for Best Contemporary Soul Gospel Album.

On Apple Music, ‘Coming Back Home’ is starred as a fan favorite.
