Avant: “Private Room”

Today, December 9, 2003, Avant released his first studio album with Geffen Records, “Private Room.” Executively produced by the seasoned Steve Huff, “Private Room” is passionate, intimate contemporary soul on the same high levels of R. Kelly’s “Chocolate Factory.”

On the US Billboard 200, “Private Room” peaked at no. 18, while on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart it reached no. 4. Two singles from the album peaked on the Hot 100: ‘Read Your Mind’ (no. 13), and ‘Don’t Take Your Love Away’ (no. 37). And on Apple Music, both songs have been starred as fan favorites, in addition to ‘Read Your Mind (Remix).’ The ladder has additional production by Gamble & Huff.

In 2014, ‘for his ‘Heat of the Moment’ track, Drake sampled ‘Phone Sex (That’s What’s Up)’ – “Private Room” track 8. This album has since been gold-certified by the Recording Industry Association of America.
